Should I Keep A Local Copy Of My Website

This article is for cPanel Accounts. Determine where your account is with this guide.

Absolutely! It is very easy to spend all night working hard on upgrading your site only to hit the wrong key or have someone else overwrite your changes. Better safe than sorry.

You may also easily back up your files, databases, email forwarders (aliases), and email filters in cPanel under Backup. We highly recommend doing so. You can use a cron job to regularly back up your databases, but be careful not to overutilize the disk space for your account.

WestHost does maintain server backups, though they are not guaranteed. At this time most servers have backups generated every 6 hours and available for about 3-5 days depending on the overall size of your account. Feel free to check with Technical Support to verify the time stamp of the backups that may be available for your server. You can restore backups for your account via R1Soft.

WestHost strongly recommends that you maintain at least one valid copy of your website files and databases to make sure that you always have something to restore in the case of an emergency or in case WestHost does not have a viable backup for you to restore data from.
