How To Restore My Files From A Backup

This article is for cPanel Accounts. Determine where your account is with this guide.

If you do not have the R1Soft link, you may need to have the backup service enabled for your account.

This article will provide the steps to restore data to your website. WestHost has a Continuous Data Backup system that will create a backup of the databases and website files on the server once every day.

Generally, only 3 - 5 days are retained in the backup system at any given time.

Databases are backed up as well but require a ticket to our support team to restore. (You can manually backup/restore databases via the PHPMyAdmin tool in cPanel. This method is not associated with R1Soft.)

Although there are typically no issues with the backups, we do not provide them as a guaranteed service. Please retain a copy of your backups locally as well.

You can use the cPanel >> R1Soft Restore tool to download the files to your local machine, create a zipped archive of website data, and restore files and folders to your account.

How to Restore

1. Login to your cPanel either through cp.westhost.com or through yourdomain.com/cpanel

2. Scroll down to the Files section and choose R1Soft Restore Backups

3. log in to R1Soft with your cPanel username and passwordIt will NOT use the e-mail address and password combination that connects you to cp.westhost.com

4. You should now see a list of available restore points. On any one of the restore points listed, you have three options: Browse, Download, and Send to Agent.

5. Click the "Browse" option to the right of the data you want to review. This will allow you to see what files and folders are available in the backup at that time.

You can then double-click on each file/folder to navigate within the window.

6. Once you have selected a file/folder you would like to restore, you can check the box to the left of the item and then choose what you'd like to do with it:

  1. "Restore Selected" will upload it from the backup server to your account. This WILL OVERWRITE the file if it already exists in your current folder.
  2. "Download Selected" will allow you to download the files to your local machine.
  3. "Send Selected to Agent" will archive the file/folder you've selected and place it in the home directory of your account. You can later manually unzip it and restore files from it if you wish.

7. As you are restoring data you will see this screen which provides great detail on what is going on, any errors that arise, and so on.

Keep this window open until the restore finishes.
