How To Import A MySQL Database

This article is for cPanel Accounts. Determine where your account is with this guide.

If you have a backup file of your database that you need to import/transfer to your account, please follow the steps below.

Generally, exported MySQL databases will be in SQL file format. Once you have your SQL file you will need to:

  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. In cPanel you will find an icon labeled MySQL Databases. Click this icon and set up a new database and the database user will import your SQL backup.
  3. Go back to the main screen of cPanel. Click the icon for phpMyAdmin (next to the MySQL Databases icon).
  4. Once in PhpMyAdmin you will see on the left side a drop-down of your databases, select the database you would like to import to.
  5. This will create some tabs at the top of the screen, click on Import.
  6. At this next screen use Choose File to select your SQL file that you want to import, then click Go at the bottom right to finish importing your SQL file.
