An EPP authorization code gives you the ability to transfer an unlocked domain which allows you to transfer your domain to another registrar before it renews.

Per ICANN policy you cannot transfer a domain to another registrar if your domain has been registered for less than 60 days. After your domain has been registered for 60 days with us you can send an email to billing@westhost.com and we will start the transfer process for you. You must transfer your domain to your new registrar before its renewal date.
