Can I Install WildCard SSL On My cPanel Account

Please note that this guide is for cPanel accounts. See where your account is hosted here.

If you are looking to install a Wildcard SSL for your account, that will be possible so long as you have a dedicated IP address for your account.

If you purchase the SSL through WestHost, you can simply check the "Have WestHost install the certificate" box and we will take care of it for you. If you are ordering your SSL through a custom provider, here are the general guidelines for getting that installed.

  1.  Firstly you will add * as a sub-domain through the cPanel domain tools. Point it to the same directory as the primary domain on the certificate. If you are ordering this SSL for an addon domain, make sure the folders match.
  2. Generate the certificate Key and CSR (Certificate Signing Request) through the cPanel SSL/TLS Manager tools. We recommend saving these files to a local backup on your computer in case you need them. Store them in a simple notepad file.
  3. Once you have the CSR, report back to your certificate provider and they will give you the CRT (Certificate file) and the CA (certificate authority) bundle. Save these on your local computer in case you need a backup.
  4. Using the cPanel SSL/TLS Tools, install the CRT file to your account.
  5. Use the "Activate Certificate" in the SSL/TLS manager to enable that wildecard SSL on your account. If the cPanel doesn't have the CA bundle on the server already, you will be able to enter that in as you activate the certificate.

Once the certificate is activated, you can run an excellent test of your SSL through here.
