A Brief SEO Review of How Content Is King!
Let’s explore how content has become king, and how you can use it to improve your search engine ranking!
The old tricks of SEO, such as crazy backlinking and keyword stuffing, are not only over, they will land your domain in quite a bit of ranking trouble. The various updates in search engine algorithms have made it harder and harder to generate SEO at lightning speeds. A new form of SEO has emerged, and content has taken the throne. Today’s clever form of SEO is to be genuine and relevant: the more relevant your content is to a given search, the better it will perform on search engine rankings. Let’s look at the pillars of good on page content-based SEO.
Keywords in Content Page Titles
The first way you can improve SEO is in each of your web pages’ titles. You’ve heard about keywords and you have a general idea of what they’re used for. So let’s explore how they apply to content. Basically, search engines have computer programs – called spiders – that crawl the worldwide web and analyze web pages. When these spiders come across a given web page, one of the first things they look for are keywords. Their first stop is the page title – this is heavily weighted for SEO, so make sure you have the best, most accurate keywords in place, and that they appear in your site title. In fact, if you haven’t done this already, go do it now and resume reading later – it’s just that important.
Keywords in Content Page Headings
Positioning keywords in your page headings is a follow-on from having them in your page titles.
Headings can be seen as dividers, categorizing the text into sub-sections. They basically work as road signs, guiding as to what the next chunk of text is about. They also serve as a precise description, and condense your content into a nutshell! So make your page headings powerful and keyword inclusive, so those creepy crawlies will be satisfied.
Keywords in the Content Body
Those spiders just love crawling, so they are going to get a good workout and look at every single word on your webpage to see which ones pop up the most. This is a pretty straightforward tip as well – before you begin writing, identify a handful of keywords, anywhere from 3-5, that you want to use in your copy to improve your search ranking. Make sure these words appear frequently on your page, but not excessively. The key thing to remember is that keywords need to be relevant to the context: it’s not just the keywords which will get noticed, it’s also the words that support these keywords. Don’t try to fool those little spiders!
Image Titles and Meta Tags in Page Images
Although image titles and meta tags are weighted less heavily than keywords in titles, they are nonetheless helpful in improving your search ranking. When the spiders crawl your site, they can easily identify words, but they are not able to see images. However, they will note your image titles and meta tags and consider those in search ranking relevancy, so make sure your keywords are present there as well.
And there you have it! King Content, sitting on its throne, will help you rise up in the kingdom of search rankings. Long live SEO!
